Day of Reflection February 20, 2010

It’s crunch time at RCIA. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)  The candidates and catechumens who will be received at the Easter Vigil have entered into the phase of “Purification and Enlightenment” as part of their preparation.  This is the home stretch.  This is when the last runner of the four-man relay kicks up the speed and makes a strong finish.  The diocese always holds a Day of Reflection for all those preparing for Easter sacraments on the first Saturday after Ash Wednesday.  Since Bishop Stephen Blaire took the office, he has made the annual presentation on the Our Father with the help of the Chancellor, Sister Barbara Thiella.

I have missed the last three years of this retreat due to wrestling tournaments.  (High school wresting is in the post-season phase.)  But, this year, I was able to attend and was reminded how much I enjoy these opportunities.  I posted my status on Facebook as “Hanging out with a bunch of wanna-be Catholics” and it’s really true.  I hang out with these people every Monday night, but I really enjoy the retreats and the preparation time.  It is a good reminder of my own journey through this program and helps to build the anticipation for the Easter Vigil.

Orchard Update February 18, 2010

With the warm weather the blossoms are beginning to burst all around us.  Some orchards are further along than others (different trees and different varieties) but they’re all on the same path.  In the not so distant future the valley will be a blanket of white and soft pink.  I’ve always wanted to fly over during the end of February just to see it from the sky.  It must be spectacular.  It’s been beautiful for last week or so, but rain in in the forecast for tomorrow through Tuesday.  That won’t be good for the blossoms.  I’ll follow up in another week or so to document the process.

Our main internet connection has been down since Thursday.  The guy is here now replacing the equipment.  Thank goodness for this little device.  This is my wireless internet card from AT&T.  It has been our link to the outside world since Thursday.  I didn’t think I used it enough to warrant the monthly fee, but I’m sure glad I hadn’t canceled it yet.

Great Grow Out – Day 100 June 27, 2009

Great Grow Out Day 100

Great Grow Out Day 100

Today is the 100th day of my Great Grow Out… It has been 100 days since I had a “real” haircut.  Tammy trimmed up the back for me a couple of weeks ago just to clean it up, but she didn’t cut enough to even count.

I’m still not sure this is the thing for me.  I HATE spending the time on styling and when I look at pictures in the magazines, I still like the short hair shots.  But on the other hand, I’ve come this far… I almost feel like I should see it through to a real style and then make my decision.  I even tried on a wig last weekend and thought about going into a shop, trying on several different styles to see if I wanted to continue.  I’m just so confused.

So here’s the fun part.  Since I’ve had so much interest in this little project of mine, I’ve decided to let you vote.  I’m not saying that I’ll go with the voting decision, I’m just curious on what you guys think. The voting is anonymous, but please only vote once.   Thanks for the feedback.  Voting will end on the 6th of July and I’ll let you know the results.

A big congratulations to the Hilmar Yellowjackets and the entire town of Hilmar for their victory over Central Catholic on Saturday.  This was the much anticipated re-match for the Rocha cousins with Hilmar coming up with the victory.

Sierra came down for the game with 8 friends from Chico and 1 from Sac State.  We hosted them at the house on Saturday night for a long and eventful “slumber” party complete with good food and party games in the basement… :)  They are all terrific kids and we were thrilled to have them visit.

Rocha Bowl ‘08 October 26, 2008

On Friday night, Steel and his cousin Jordan played in a football game that will go down in the history of the Rocha family as one of the most memorable and controversial.  There is no doubt in my mind that this game will be argued about at weddings, funerals, holidays and every other family function for the rest of our lives. It was an emotional night for all involved.  My favorite shot of the night is the one I almost didn’t get.  That’s the best thing about photographs.  When you’re shooting a “once in a lifetime” event… you don’t get a second chance, so no matter the quality of the photo, it instantly becomes priceless.  Jordan and Steel walked off the field together.  Rivals and cousins… both # 22.  I dropped my bags and started shooting but I didn’t have the zoom lens so this is as good as it gets.  Some kids from Hilmar behind me saw what I was doing and even commented on how cool it was.  How cool indeed.

So lately, I’ve been hooked on Martha Stewart.  I know, I know… it’s not reality, but to tell you the truth I think it’s entertaining to witness excellence… and you have to admit… Martha always strives for excellence.

Today’s show was all about blogging… something I can’t quite figure out.  (Can’t understand why anyone would care.) But I’m going to try again.  So stay tuned… and I’ll try to keep you updated.
