Drive

It’s Monday night, so I should be at RCIA… But instead, I was driving home from St. Stanislaus Church in Modesto at 8:11. Tonight was the tour of the church… which is one of the best nights of the year. It’s very interesting, but as I was sitting there listening… I felt the urge to go home. I can’t really explain it… I just felt like I should go home.

Since my presence isn’t really necessary for the tour… I was able to sneak out relatively un-noticed.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins have to be about the happiest fruit on the planet.  They just make me smile.  I don’t know why I find them so attractive… but they represent so many wonderful things… like my favorite time of year and one of my favorite scents.  (Cinnamon is the my favorite, but it just happens to go very well with pumpkin.)  Each one is unique… and when you think of carving, or decorating, the possibilities are endless.

My mother loved pumpkin pies… especially the ones from Costco.  She always had one in her fridge this time of year.  I can’t eat a piece without thinking of her… and I always pick up one (or two) at Costco when I’m there in the fall… as a reminder of her.  So many happy memories attached to these globes… no wonder I smile when I see them.

Chilean Mine Rescue

I am not alone. Over one BILLION people in the world have watched some if not all of the Chilean Mine Rescue live on TV. I’m not a big TV watcher, but when something like this comes along it is hard to turn it off and walk away. I started watching on the 2nd miner… and my immediate thought was that I could stay up all night long watching this story unfold. Knowing that was not in my best interest, I had to force myself to turn it off last night and pick up the action again after work this afternoon. The TV has been set to Fox News all afternoon and I’ve watched the last few come up. All of them are safe above ground. What a miracle and a testament to people coming together in a crisis to problem solve and get things done. Amazing story. You can’t watch something like this and doubt the existence of God or feel sorry for yourself. I hope someone offers the coverage on DVD. I want it for Christmas.

Sweetbread

One of the best things about living so close to my mother in law is the regular deliver of fresh, hot sweetbread. This is a real treat and pretty famous stuff. Anyone who knows my mother in law, knows how delicious her sweetbread is. It is often sold at charity auctions and requested at special celebrations.

Today, she called and offered some fresh out of the oven. Not to go over empty handed, I went to the garden and picked some tomatoes to take to her. Pretty good trade if you ask me.

Keyboard

You guys know I’m a gadget girl.  I love all things electronic.  One of the best things about the new iPhone 4 was the wireless keyboard capability.  Leroy bought this for me a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of favorites.  Now I don’t have any excuses on keeping up with the blog.  If only Apple would improve the quality of the camera… I could really lighten my load.

Dooney and Bourke

I haven’t written about it much… but one of my favorite indulgences are nice purses and handbags.  I have a number of beautiful bags that I’ve collected over the years… all original Gucci, Coach and Dooney and Bourke.  This obsession started many, many years ago and I usually add a piece or two every couple of years.  This little beauty is about 3 years old and one of my favorites.  I do have a larger bag (and matching wallet) in this same pattern.  One of the golden rules that I try to follow is “The bigger the bag, the smaller your butt looks.”  But, sometimes, you just want a little bag for an event or special occasion.

Fantasy Football

Football is in the air… and with the anticipation of cheer on the live games, football also takes over our fantasy lives as well. It’s a lot of fun to put together your “dream team” and compete against friends and family.

Steel has decided to be the commissioner for a league and has signed Brandon up as a participant. Here they are watching the draft on the laptops anxiously awaiting their chance to place their own picks. I’ll keep you updated on the progress throughout the season.
